To say the least, its been a whirlwind couple months. Besides getting our interpretive naturalist and visitor services teams back out on-site at Red Rock Canyon, Spring Mountains NRA, and the California Trail Interpretive Center we took on the extra challenge of organizing a fundraising event of a scope our organization had never tackled before. The community was invited to hang out under the stars in September and participate in an evening of fun, inspiration, and giving. And indeed, it is inspiring to see the community support public lands education at Red Rock Canyon, Mt Charleston, and beyond by attending or becoming a sponsor.
Unfortunately, out of an abundance of caution we have decided to indefinitely postpone the Sand to Sky event. We don’t feel great about this, but there’s still uncertainty here in Clark County, and we’re not interested in exposing folks to a risky situation. So, we’re holding off on the event for now.
If you obtained tickets through our website you will have a message in your inbox about refunds, and we’ve reached out to our awesome sponsors. To be clear, Sand to Sky initiative itself is not going away, we’re merely postponing the group event until a future time. You can still make a difference, though! Sand to Sky is about supporting the interpretive and educational programs that motivate curiosity about and respect for Nevada’s special outdoor spaces, and that need remains. Were it is safe to do so, we’re on-site inspiring people to discover, understand, and enjoy their public lands with guided hikes and exhibits, Junior Ranger programs, and much more. Southern Nevada Conservancy will continue raising funds under the Sand to Sky initiative, and we would be honored to add you to the list of champions supporting the work that builds that curiosity and respect.
Optimism is the heart of our organization, and everything we do is geared around taking steps now to promote a positive future. We hope our leadership in erring on the side of health and safety will inspire the community to take the steps necessary to put this pandemic in the rearview mirror once and for all.
